One of the best ways to experience Western Canada is taking driving along the Icefields Parkway which joins Jasper National Park to Banff National Park. This scenic drive is listed among the 50 best routes on the National Geographic listings with trails to explore and vista view stop-offs. One of the highlights of the Jasper area is Athabasca Falls whose waters are believed to originate in the icefields of Columbia culminating in the 60ft descent of beautiful blue water with a 30ft wide spray. The icefields, believed to be the result of ancient formations are awe-inspiring to see as well as to walk upon.

A not to be missed stop along the way is Calgary for the annual stampede festival encompassing 10 days of live shows, churckwagon racing contests and many other activities to enjoy. Continuing along the way to Canmore affords the opportunity to experience a ski and snowboarders mecca with fantastic trails and top rated ski resort accommodations.

Upon reaching Banff National Park, a gondola ride is highly recommended. This 8 minute ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain is resplendent with breathtaking mountain peak views and fantastic wildlife watching for big horn sheep and gray jay birds.

There are a few cultural attractions in Western Canada that people must see. The first attraction is the Royal Alberta Museum. The Royal Alberta Museum has all of its collections divided by four. They are life sciences, earth sciences, Human history, and collections services. The second attraction is The Fort Museum. The Fort Museum is a museum that focuses on the lives of North West Mounted Police and the First Nations people. It was built in 1874 and is still in the original building. All of the exhibits are split up in several different galleries that has something for everyone.

The third attraction is the Aviation Hall of Fame. The Aviation Hall of Fame celebrates all of the accomplishments that Canada’s aviation team has done. This is because Canada’s history evolves around aviation much more than any other country. All of the stories of aviation are told through portraits, citations, photographs, and memorabilia. The fourth attraction is The Glenbow Museum. The Glenbow Museum has artifacts that relate to Canada from all over the world. Along with the museum, there is an art gallery and a library. The collection in the museum consists of over a million artifacts and some 28,000 works of art.

From east to west as the sun travels across our earth, the four provinces comprising Western Canada are Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. Across Saskatchewan, and Manitoba is the region known as the Prairies while British Columbia is a coastal province, but Alberta and B.C. are also known for their high mountains, spectacular rivers, and reserved areas.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the Prairies, have southern agricultural regions. Wheat is one of the principle crops. Winnipeg is the capital city of Manitoba and is the cultural, governmental, economical, and historical center. In Saskatchewan, Regina is the capital, but the city with the largest population is Saskatoon. You can find a quick rundown here

Alberta is known for Jasper and Banff National Parks and the Icefields Parkway running between the towns of Banff and Jasper in the parks. Edmonton is Alberta’s capital city and Calgary, site of the 1988 Winter Olympics, is also a prominent metropolis.

Next, to the west, British Columbia has the Pacific Ocean on its western border. Vancouver is B.C.’s capital and most famous city. The 2010 Olympics centered in this city and the surrounding mountains. When touring these four amazing provinces that make up Western Canada, travelers find them diverse and with much to offer.

Western Canada is vast, and the seasons are dramatically different. So in planning a trip to western Canada, you must take in to account the types of activities and the seasons. Whenever you arrive, plan to be casual. It is that kind of country.

The Canadian Rockies can be a journey onto themseves. Winter or summer the area has much to offer. If you are a skier, pack your gear and visit some of the best ski areas in North America. If you are a fan of all seasonal or outdoor activities, the Rockies provide scenic adventures and things to do all through the year.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . Bring your camping gear and trail bikes for a visible delight you will not soon forget. Visit the magnificent, Banff and Jasper National Parks, situated in the heart of the Rockies.

Hop on a tour train that will take you on a scenic trip from Banff through the desert at Kamloops, to the rainforest in Vancouver. Canada surprisingly has both a desert and a rainforest. Tell that to your friends.

Vancouver is the crown jewel of the western provinces situated on the rugged Pacific coast. With its mild climate, dense forests and lush gardens, the city is becoming a extremely popular travel destination. It is a relaxed city as well, but dressier than the wilds you just left.

Wherever or whenever you plan on visiting, reservations are in order as more and more travelers discover the western wonders of Canada.
