How To Find Your Way Around Western Canada
One of the best ways to experience Western Canada is taking driving along the Icefields Parkway which joins Jasper National Park to Banff National Park. This scenic drive is listed among the 50 best routes on the National Geographic listings with trails to explore and vista view stop-offs. One of the highlights of the Jasper area is Athabasca Falls whose waters are believed to originate in the icefields of Columbia culminating in the 60ft descent of beautiful blue water with a 30ft wide spray. The icefields, believed to be the result of ancient formations are awe-inspiring to see as well as to walk upon.
A not to be missed stop along the way is Calgary for the annual stampede festival encompassing 10 days of live shows, churckwagon racing contests and many other activities to enjoy. Continuing along the way to Canmore affords the opportunity to experience a ski and snowboarders mecca with fantastic trails and top rated ski resort accommodations.
Upon reaching Banff National Park, a gondola ride is highly recommended. This 8 minute ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain is resplendent with breathtaking mountain peak views and fantastic wildlife watching for big horn sheep and gray jay birds.
